In a world where long hours and burnout are often the price of success, we’re proving there’s a better way, one that benefits both women and the bottom line.
We are a creative change management company founded and led by Monique Mann: successful businesswoman, entrepreneur, mother of two, and avid yogi. Her mission? To create a business that works for women, not against them. One where ambition is fuelled by wellbeing and where working smart matters more than burning out. Since launching in 2015, Change Lab has grown into one of South Africa’s top change management consulting companies. They are working with some of South Africa’s biggest names across industries and going toe-to-toe with the Big Four.
Monique says, “We’re here to make a difference for our clients, in a way that feels good and sustainable for our people.”
There is increasing evidence that inclusive workplaces, where women are supported, bring clear benefits to companies. However, McKinsey & Company’s 2024 Women in the Workplace report indicates that women’s experiences at work are, in many ways, the same or worse than they were ten years ago.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. In a male-dominated industry often associated with hustle culture and long hours, we are paving a new path. One where women thrive, and high performance isn’t driven by personal sacrifice. Our secret? Empathy, flexibility, and working smarter, not longer. We champion remote working and embrace true flexibility. However, when the work ramps up, the team shows up with energy, enthusiasm, and a shared commitment to delivering results.
Our team spans generations, life stages, and locations. Some are mothers navigating school pickups, others are early in their careers, focused on building their futures. What unites us is a shared belief: you don’t have to choose between thriving in your career and thriving as a human being.
“We have open conversations about capacity, boundaries, and what success looks like, and not just once a year in a performance review,” says one of our senior consultants. “Whether it’s working remotely, adjusting hours, or just being honest about needing a pause. We make space for each other without compromising commitment or quality.”
This culture of trust and flexibility doesn’t mean less is expected. It means we are empowered to show up at our best. When people feel seen and supported, they’re more motivated to deliver, step in for each other, and get the job done. Not out of obligation, but because they care about the work and the people they do it with. Our high-performing team understands that delivering value requires focus, responsiveness, and a willingness to go above and beyond when needed. But it’s not about clocking endless hours; it’s about working efficiently and working as a team.
Redefining Leadership
At Change Lab, leadership is about creating the space for people to thrive. This is female leadership in its most authentic form: grounded, collaborative, and human.
“We place people at the heart of what we do,” Monique explains. “That’s not just one of our values, but a strategy.”
This shows up in simple but powerful ways: regular check-ins, opportunities to develop greater self-awareness, open communication, and a culture where asking for help is seen as a strength, not a weakness. The result? A team that feels supported, safe, and empowered to bring our best selves to the table, and clients who feel the ripple effect.
Redefining Success
For many women, success has often come packaged in someone else’s definition: long hours, rigid hierarchies, and the elusive notion of “balance” that never quite adds up. When you’re juggling multiple roles — mother, partner, professional, friend — the traditional corporate ladder can feel like a race designed for someone else.
At Change Lab, that model doesn’t make sense. We’re pioneering a different kind of success. One that makes room for real life, honours wellbeing, and still delivers high-impact results.
Excellence and empathy go hand in hand here. Our team trusts each other to share the load and collaborate openly, creating a space where everyone can perform at their best.
In a world grappling with burnout, our approach feels refreshingly obvious: what if people did better work when they actually felt good? The answer, it turns out, is yes. We are energised, clients are delighted, and the work is consistently sharp, strategic, and impactful.
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, an executive, a freelancer, or simply someone rethinking what you want from your career, maybe this is your reminder:
- You can prioritise wellbeing without compromising impact.
- You can create space for real life and deliver exceptional work.
- You can thrive as a woman in business, and help others do the same.
